Start Your Story Early and Hype Everything

Have you been telling your story along the way? As a reminder, it is imperative that you be sharing verbally and on social media the progress you are making as a start-up.

Your regular progress updates become the foundation for you to be able to tell your brand story – how your company was started and how it advanced over time. You should continue to get the word out there about your company. Even though it takes self-discipline, and you are busy with many other things, it will help you with fundraising.

Hype milestones! You and your team should define and map out all the potential milestones to highlight. It’s more than just delivering a finished product. It could be that:

  • you completed the second phase of MVP (minimum viable product) testing.

  • you have achieved your goal of meeting with 20 investors this past quarter.

  • you have rounded out your leadership team.

  • you closed a new customer.

Of course, it would be great if the achievement is that an investor has invested in you. Regardless, hype everything! You want to get people excited about your company. Sure, you haven’t reached the promised land yet, but you are making progress, even in small ways, if you are working at it. Even if you think something is not that big of a deal, you should still post it, share it, and hype it because it could become more significant in the future. You never know.

Telling your story, especially on social media, is also a convenient way for you to document the rise of your company for historical purposes. If your ideas and your company are important enough for you to devote your life to, then they are important enough for the world to know about.
